It
was a romantic trip to the Bahamas. The first night we dined in a luxury
hotel, which is close to the ocean. Meal of Nassau paradise island
has become a pleasant surprise for me. It is based mainly on seafood.
You can eat the clams, lobsters, crabs and freshly caught fish, cooked
in many different ways in almost every restaurant of Nassau. Rice,
beans, spices, tomatoes and onions served as a side dish. Chefs of
Nassau borrowed much from the Caribbean, American, British, European
and African meal, but all the recipes were adapted to local conditions
and opportunities. One of the meals that we liked was fish chowder.
Fish chowder in Bahamian prepared in different ways. Old cooks recommend
cooking it from the sea bass. They add the celery, onions, tomatoes
and all sorts of flavorings, including Worcestershire sauce, thyme,
culinary cherry, dark rum and lime juice. It is many components, but
it gives a unique taste the dish! I’ve never tasted anything
more delicious. Turtle soup and other dishes of meat turtle was the
main meal on the outer islands for a long time (there is a real threat
for turtle populations in this area). Bahamian meal is quite spicy,
subtle and original. Johnny cakes are an integral part of Bahamian
table. Also, we were offered a wide selection of tropical fruits, including
pineapples, passion fruit, melon, mango and papaya for dessert. But
the most exotic dessert in the Bahamas islands is pudding guava. It
is made for the honor guests only. Guava has astringent, antibacterial
and antispasmodic effect. It is used, along with seeds or cut form,
such as apples. You can eat ripe guava fruit with the peel (it is thin,
but bitter to the taste). It improves digestion, stimulates the heart
and normalizes blood pressure. Guava is rich in B vitamins, fiber,
proteins, fats, calcium, iron and phosphorus. It is the only fruit
with vitamin C, which is several times greater than in oranges. Therefore,
doctors of Nassau recommend eat guava fruit to strengthen the body’s
lymphatic system and improve its overall tone. Local meat meals are
cooked mainly of chicken, lamb and mutton on these islands. National
food is a meal of peas and rice. It is prepared from the local varieties
of peas, bacon, tomatoes, celery, rice, thyme, green pepper, onion,
pepper and salt. Bahamians add hot sauce in it.
